KANE COUNTY LAWYERS FEEDING ILLINOIS
In cooperation with Feeding Illinois, the Illinois State Bar Association created a task force to conduct a food/fund-raising drive among lawyers to assist the eight regional food banks in Illinois and the food pantries they serve. The Kane County Bar Association and Foundation joined this effort and during the last two weeks in February 2013 they raised over $12,000!
The KCBA and KCBF efforts were chaired by attorneys Sandi Byrd, Diana Law and Inez Toledo. In addition to accepting online donations, they organized a fundraising event called the “Hunger is No Game Games” where attorneys played carnival type games with the prize of being entered into a drawing to throw a pie at someone. Funds were generated from this event through admissions and sponsorships. The committee would like to say a special thank you to the Fox Valley Country Club in North Aurora for their generous support of this event. KCBA and KCBF Board Members and KCBA Committee Chairs also helped to raise funds by simply asking their friends and colleagues to make donations.
The $12,000 raised from the Kane County Bar Association and Foundation’s efforts will directly benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank. NIFB is a non-profit organization that serves 13 counties and they work with food manufacturers, local groceries, corporations, foundations, and individuals to donate food and funds, and evaluate and repack food for distribution to more than 600 network partners – the food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and youth and senior feeding programs that serve more than 60,000 different people each week. The food bank has centers in Geneva (West Suburban Center), Lake County (North Suburban Center) and Loves Park (Northwest Center) and has an office in Joliet. Northern Illinois Food Bank serves the following counties: Boone, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will and Winnebago. Their vision is for no one to be hungry in northern Illinois and their mission is to lead the northern Illinois community in solving hunger by providing nutritious meals to those in need through innovative programs and partnerships.
One in five children in northern Illinois faces hunger each day. Even though the Lawyers Feeding Illinois two week campaign has concluded, the Kane County Bar Association and the Kane County Bar Foundation encourage everyone to help.
