Lawyer in the Lobby

In furtherance of the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct preamble, in May 2011 the Kane County Bar Association, with support from the 16th Judicial Circuit, envisioned and established a Lawyer in the Lobby walk-in service that is held at the Kane County Courthouse (3rd Street Courthouse), Friday mornings from 9:00am until 11:30am. Each person may have 15 minutes to meet with a lawyer.

Volunteering civil practice lawyers are happy to answer questions about civil matters such as, but not limited to:

  • Landlord, tenant, or eviction issues
  • Foreclosures
  • Name changes
  • Small claims cases
  • Estates, wills, and guardianship

Volunteering civil practice lawyers are not able to assist with:

  • Matters which you are already working on with a lawyer or legal aid agency
  • Child support, divorce, parentage, or other family law issues
  • Traffic tickets or ordinance violations
  • Any criminal matters
